On 23 May 2014, Sinar College went to Gabungan pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS) headquarter as we were invited by them for a meeting. We were welcomed by the Vice President of GPMS, En. Alif Anas and several of top committee members. GPMS plan for SPM motivational talk & tour in 60 schools nationwide and offer to us to participate in the national roadshow. We then discuss the details of our collaboration.
On 19 and 20 May 2014, Sinar College had attended Economic Empowerment Seminar organized by Melaka state government at MITC Melaka. The goal of the seminar is discuss and inform economic participants in Melaka on ways to solve problems and improve economic situation of people in Melaka. The seminar was officiated by Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Melaka and Exco Pertanian & Keusahawanan Negreri Melaka, Datuk Hassan Ahmad.
It then was subsequently followed 9 separate workshops, namely, manufacturing, agriculture, small & medium businesses, entrepreneurship, education, finance, globalization, as well as two which were very related to the college that are education and tourism. We took the opportunity to express our concern and problem we face in our business. We also took the chance to make the college known and promote our courses to other participants.
The seminar was ended with the speech from the Chief Minister, Datuk Wira Ir. Idris Haron.
On 14 May 2014, Kolej Sinar as the only GOLD status Approved Learning Partner for The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, has conducted ACCA Student Membership Day for its Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) students.
To qualify a student for ACCA examination, the student must register as a student member of ACCA besides initial registration with Sinar College, the education provider. ACCA student registration can only be done online in ACCA official website. In the ACCA website, a student must key in all personal details and upload photos and documents in correct format before each is given with specific registration number. For mature students who attend ACCA Fundamental & Profesional papers classes at the college, we often assist the students individually in registration as ACCA student members.
For CAT students, as part of our quality student support, we hold a special day for all the CAT students to attend and guide them step by step on ACCA online registration. We do this at the Computer Room which we usually hold CAT Computer Based Exam.
On 7 May 2014, Kolej Sinar held an open day for community in Melaka. We had preview and explanation about all the courses which we offer. We started with introduction about Sinar College and its facilities. Then, as the only GOLD status Approved Learning Partner in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan & Johor, we explained in detail about The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Certified Accountants Technician (CAT) courses in the subsequent session.
We then did a lengthy preview on Tourist Guide Course before additional preview about University of Malaya Centre of Continuing Education (UMccEd) Diploma, SAGE UBS courses, and Sinar College’s Diploma in Accounting & Diploma in Business Administration.
On 30 April 2014, Kolej Sinar was again on air at Melaka FM, to talk on tourist guide career. Lecturer, Alif who spoke on behalf of the college, also took the opportunity to promote Sinar College and its tourist guide course.
On 23 March 2014, 12th Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz was held at Multimedia University, Bukit Beruang. Inter Varsity Accounting Quiz was accounting based competition between all universities and colleges nation-wide which is organized every year. This year’s competition, with the slogan, “Inquire, Inspire and Innovate”, was co-organized by Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and sponsored by CPA Australia (Certified Practicing Accountants). CPA is one of three professional accounting bodies in Australia.
Sinar College sponsored also this national level event together with other reputable organizations such as Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the largest accounting body in the world, one of the largest accounting firm – Price Waterhouse Coopers, Sunway TES, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), Cheng & Co Chartered Accountants, Axis Eyewear and BDO.
For 2014’s event, many private and public universities participated and the organizer had to reduce the participants through preliminary rounds which all universities had to sit for paper tests. Kolej Sinar survived the preliminary stages.
Sinar College students performed remarkably by qualifying into Semi-Final and compete with the likes of Sunway College and Multimedia University.
On 30 April 2014, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Mutahir, Batu Berendam organized an education fair during its Minggu Kerjaya. The event, participated by more than 20 colleges and 500 students, was part of the school’s Unit Bimbingan & Kaunseling’s effort to increase the students’ awareness on career and higher education. Sinar College, as the school’s close partner, was personally invited to set up booth to promote our courses. It started at 09.00 am and ended at 01.30 pm.
On 28 April 2014, Kolej Sinar was representatives were once again invited to the state radio station, Melaka FM to talk on tourist guide career and how Kolej Sinar’s Kursus Pemandu Pelancong Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Tahap 3 can assist them in pursuing their dream in tourism industry.
Our talk was aired at 10.30 am and we also wished the tourist guide students the best luck by dedicating the song, “Standing in the eyes of the world” during the talk. We explained the prospect of the tourism industry, works of a tourist guide as well as interesting tourist guide course offered by Kolej Sinar.
On 28 April 2014, Kementerian Pelancongan & Kebudayaan held an oral examination for Kursus Pemandu Pelancong at Sinar College. The students were evaluated by 4 independent examiners who are experienced tour guide practitioners in Melaka and observed by representatives from Ministry of Tourism & Culture. The examination was divided into 2 sessions; slide presentation and bus coaching.
The examination started with slide presentation at 08.30 am which each trainee was randomly assigned a topic in Power Point slide where they must spontaneously elaborate the pictures and topic on the slides.
At 11.00 am, all students successfully completed their slides presentation and moved to Kolej Sinar’s bus. On the bus, candidates took turn to spontaneously talk or perform commentary on scenes and buildings along the road the bus was taking. The bus brought the students for a tour in historical city of Melaka.
At the end of the day, Sinar College’s lecturing team, Kementerian Pelancongan’s representatives and examiners had general discussion on the tourist guide students’ performance.
As the only Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Gold Status Approved Learning Provider in southern region (Melaka, Johor & Negeri Sembilan), Sinar College continued its tradition in offering full range of ACCA subjects including the CAT course. For this year, Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) or well-known as Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) started in April 2014.
CAT provide chance to accounting professional aspirants to obtain diploma level qualification which is recognized worldwide within just 1 year with most of the examination are multiple choice questions and computer based.
On 22 April 2014 at the same time as written Tourist Guide Course Examination, Sinar College went on air with the state official radio channel, Melaka FM. Sinar, represented by its Tourist Guide lecturer, Alif talked about the college and career as tourist guide from 11.45 am to 12.15 am.
On 11 April 2014, Sinar College visited Jasin as we were invited to deliver a talk at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Iskandar Shah. The talk was organized by Panitia Perakaunan as part of effort to improve the students’ awareness on professional accountancy qualification, which Sinar College had handled effectively. The talk took about more than an hour and was attended by Form 4 and 5 students. We elaborated on career opportunities in accountancy, route to becoming professionals, and how ACCA qualification helps in this aspect.
On 22 April 2014, Tourist Guide students sat for written examination under supervision of representative from Ministry of Tourism & Hospitality. The examination was divided into multiple choice test which started at 09.00 am and essay writing test at 10.30 pm. About 20 students sat for the examination which ened at 01.00 pm.
On 10 April 2014, Sinar College representative attended the Annual General Meeting of Malacca Tourism Association at Hatten Hotel. About 60 members participated in the meeting that among other discuss various past and future issues as well as voting for the new committee members.
Upon the meeting which ended at 08.30 PM, members were invited for a dinner. We were entertained by wonderful musical performance as well as lucky draw.
On 10 April 2014, Sinar College was invited again to deliver talk on career in accountancy and accounting / ACCA qualification at SMK St David. The talk was targeted to Form 5 students who take Prinsip Akaun subject and also attended by teachers. We explained in depth for 2 hours about career and ACCA qualification.
On 7 April 2014, Sinar College gave a career talk to Form 5 students who study science stream at Sekoleh Menengah Kebangsaan St David. The talk was held for 2 hours from 10.00 am in the Audio Video Room. Besides explaining about educational opportunities, we also introduced the students about courses offered at the college.
Sinar College as the reliable training institution for tourism courses had again organized a trip for its tourist guide students. The students were brought to tour around Melaka on 6 April 2014. During the tour, the students were trained on their oral presentation while describing on interesting places along the way.
On 3 April 2014, Sinar College participated in Education Fair at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St David. Around 20 colleges including Sinar set up booth which was located inside the school main hall. It was part of the school event to raise fund while introducing educational opportunities to students after SPM. The exhibition involved more than 500 students.
From 7 April 2014 to 10 April 2014, Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran conducted workshop for all training centers from Melaka, Negeri Sembilan & Johor at Hotel Selesa, Johor Bahru. As one of the approved training center that offfer Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) course, Sinar College was sponsored to attend the event. The workshop was for introducing and training us on the new format of SKM training and the system used in administrating it, known as Skim Kredit Kemahiran Malaysia (SKMM).
On 31 March 2014, Sinar College team visited Kolej Politeknik Merlimau as our Tourist Guide lecturer, En Alif was invited to become the examiner for final year students of Diploma in Event Management. Each final year student was assigned with project and had to present them in front of us. En Alif then assessed each student based on certain criteria and gave some constructive criticism. We had meaningful discussion with lecturers as well as Head of Programs from the Tourism & Hospitality Faculty.
Sinar College is the only active training institution for Tourist Guide Course in this region. On 19 March 2014, we were invited by the top management of Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka to deliver a training and talk on event and tourism industry. More than 200 students from Fakulti Pelancongan participated in the event. We also took the opportunity to explain on tourism industry and career as well as the benefit of Kursus Pemandu Pelancongan Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Tahap 3.
As part of the tourist guide course (Kursus Pemandu Pelancong Sijil Kemahiran Tahap 3), Sinar College organized an outbound trip for its tourist guide students. For the current batch, we had decided to tour Penang and Putrajaya. The students waited at Sinar College, Melaka Raya and departed by bus at 11.30 PM on 19 March 2014. On the first day, the students were brought to tour Penang while polishing their presentation skill on the bus. On the second day, on the their way back to Melaka, teh bus entered Putrajaya for another round of coachong training during the tour there. The trip took 2 days and and students arrived at Melaka at 6.00 PM on 21 March 2014.
On 20 March 2014, Sinar College team visited 2 schools as we were invited by the school to participate in education exihibition for the schools’ leavers who returned for SPM result which was announced on the same day. We set up promotion booth with other colleges at the 2 schools, namely, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Durian Tunggal and Sekolah menengah Kebangsaan Tun Haji Abdul Malek, Cheng.
On 19 March 2014, Sinar College went again to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Bemban, Jasin for another round of talk on accountancy and ACCA qualification. For this time, about 40 Form 5 students attended the session. We explained in depth about accounting career and qualification that the students must possess in order to obtain jobs. After the talk, we had discussion with the new Principal as well as the Prinsip Akaun teacher.
On 17 March 2014, Kolej Sinar went to Bemban, Jasin as we were invited by the only secondary school’s Panitia Akaun there to talk about accountancy career and qualification. We were welcomed by Puan Nor Hasimah and had brief discussion. About 80 Form 4 students attended the talk.
On 16 March 2014, Kolej Sinar team went to set up a booth at Melaka Mall, Ayer Keroh. We are part of several institutions that sponsored the event. The event was mainly targeted for Form 4 and Form 5 students from Melaka which among other include a “Math Is Easy” session with experienced mathematic teacher, Cikgu Suria. The event held at main stage, started at 10.00 am and ended at 06.00 pm.
On 13 march 2014, Sinar College went to Masjid Tanah as we were invited to deliver a talk on accountancy career and qualification at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Hang Kasturi. We started by explaining about accounting and career path in accountancy before showing the students in detailed about ACCA qualification. The talk was attended by Form 4 and Form 5 students.
On 7 March 2014, Kolej Sinar team went again to St Francis Institute to deliver talk on accountancy career and qualification. For this time, we were entrusted to explain to Form 5 students on career path and education route if they are to pursue future in accountancy. The spokesperson was our lecturer, Mr Nicholas Ee Herng Wai. We also took the chance to explain to students about Sinar College as the only Gold status Approved Learning Partner in southern region.
On 6 March 2014, Kolej Sinar represented ACCA in special session with students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Malim, Cheng. We delivered a lengthy talk on The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification and career in accountancy. The talk was arranged by Unit Bimbingan & Kaunseling. According to Puan Arni Suraya, this is as a follow up to last year talk on ACCA which was given to Form 3 students. For this year’s talk, it was attended by more than 100 students from form 4 and form 5.
On 5 March 2014, Sinar College visited Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St Francis as we were invited for session of explanation on accountancy career. We were welcomed by Puan Yee Mer Har, the Prinsip Akaun teacher and had brief discussion before and after the talk. The talk was divided into 2 sessions. The first session was held in classroom for Form 6 students. The second session was held in the hall for the Form 4 students. 15 Form 6 students and 80 Form 4 students attended the talk.
On 27 February 2014, Sinar College went to visit Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Teknik Bukit Piatu. Our spokesperson talked in 2 separate sessions with Form 4 and Form 5 students on career path they should take in the future. We also took the opportunity to introduce Sinar College to the students.
On 26 February 2014, Puan Suraya, appointed Pegawai Penilaian Luar (PPL) for Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Level 3 Kursus Pemandu Pelancong visited Kolej Sinar. She inspected the MLVK portfolio prepared by tourist guide students and met with the students.
On 25 February 2014, Sinar College conducted Travel & Tour Enhancement Course (TTEC). It was participated by travel agencies from all over southern region. Travel agencies are required by Kementerian Pelancongan to attend TTEC before being allowed to renew their license.
The course started with session by En Jefri Munir, Director of Tourism Malaysia Melaka before a session about procedural issues by Puan Zawiyah from Kementerian Pelancongan. The rest of the session was presented by Nai Sin Heng, Kolej Sinar’s tourist guide lecturer.
On Saturday 22 February 2014, Kolej Sinar organized an official event, Kursus Kepimpinan Kelab, Persatuan and Koperasi for students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Mutahir, Batu Berendam. We were trusted by school’s management to fully conduct the event which is one of the most important event in the school calendar. About 150 students attended the seminar which was to train students on aspects of management of clubs and association. The course started at 08.00 am with opening speech by Head of Co-curriculum. We then took 2 hours for leadership and motivation session which we include several games among students. After break, we started with technology session by invited speaker from MyScan Technology. The course was finalized by financial management and accounting session of which we took the opportunity to introduce in depth about Sinar College and its courses.
On 20 February 2014, Sinar College representative was invited for conference for leaders of higher education institutions of Melaka. About 58 CEO and leaders from all colleges and universities in Melaka attended the seminar which was organized by Jabatan Ketua Menteri Melaka at World Youth Hotel, Ayer Keroh. Several important issues were raised during the meeting.
On 17 February 2014, Kolej Sinar visited Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Mamat at Tangkak town, Johor. We organized talk on accountancy career in collaboration with the school’s Unit Bimbingan & Kaunseling. About 200 form 5 students attended the talk.
On 18 February 2014, Sinar College went to Jementah as we were invited by the school to talk on career on accountancy. The talked started from motivation session before briefing on accountancy career and qualification. We then explained in detailed on ACCA as organization and qualification. The school gained many useful insights from the talk and presented souvenir to us.
