On 28 April 2014, Kolej Sinar was representatives were once again invited to the state radio station, Melaka FM to talk on tourist guide career and how Kolej Sinar’s Kursus Pemandu Pelancong Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Tahap 3 can assist them in pursuing their dream in tourism industry.
Our talk was aired at 10.30 am and we also wished the tourist guide students the best luck by dedicating the song, “Standing in the eyes of the world” during the talk. We explained the prospect of the tourism industry, works of a tourist guide as well as interesting tourist guide course offered by Kolej Sinar.
On 28 April 2014, Kementerian Pelancongan & Kebudayaan held an oral examination for Kursus Pemandu Pelancong at Sinar College. The students were evaluated by 4 independent examiners who are experienced tour guide practitioners in Melaka and observed by representatives from Ministry of Tourism & Culture. The examination was divided into 2 sessions; slide presentation and bus coaching.
The examination started with slide presentation at 08.30 am which each trainee was randomly assigned a topic in Power Point slide where they must spontaneously elaborate the pictures and topic on the slides.
At 11.00 am, all students successfully completed their slides presentation and moved to Kolej Sinar’s bus. On the bus, candidates took turn to spontaneously talk or perform commentary on scenes and buildings along the road the bus was taking. The bus brought the students for a tour in historical city of Melaka.
At the end of the day, Sinar College’s lecturing team, Kementerian Pelancongan’s representatives and examiners had general discussion on the tourist guide students’ performance.
As the only Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Gold Status Approved Learning Provider in southern region (Melaka, Johor & Negeri Sembilan), Sinar College continued its tradition in offering full range of ACCA subjects including the CAT course. For this year, Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) or well-known as Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) started in April 2014.
CAT provide chance to accounting professional aspirants to obtain diploma level qualification which is recognized worldwide within just 1 year with most of the examination are multiple choice questions and computer based.
On 22 April 2014 at the same time as written Tourist Guide Course Examination, Sinar College went on air with the state official radio channel, Melaka FM. Sinar, represented by its Tourist Guide lecturer, Alif talked about the college and career as tourist guide from 11.45 am to 12.15 am.
On 11 April 2014, Sinar College visited Jasin as we were invited to deliver a talk at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Iskandar Shah. The talk was organized by Panitia Perakaunan as part of effort to improve the students’ awareness on professional accountancy qualification, which Sinar College had handled effectively. The talk took about more than an hour and was attended by Form 4 and 5 students. We elaborated on career opportunities in accountancy, route to becoming professionals, and how ACCA qualification helps in this aspect.
On 22 April 2014, Tourist Guide students sat for written examination under supervision of representative from Ministry of Tourism & Hospitality. The examination was divided into multiple choice test which started at 09.00 am and essay writing test at 10.30 pm. About 20 students sat for the examination which ened at 01.00 pm.
On 10 April 2014, Sinar College representative attended the Annual General Meeting of Malacca Tourism Association at Hatten Hotel. About 60 members participated in the meeting that among other discuss various past and future issues as well as voting for the new committee members.
Upon the meeting which ended at 08.30 PM, members were invited for a dinner. We were entertained by wonderful musical performance as well as lucky draw.
On 10 April 2014, Sinar College was invited again to deliver talk on career in accountancy and accounting / ACCA qualification at SMK St David. The talk was targeted to Form 5 students who take Prinsip Akaun subject and also attended by teachers. We explained in depth for 2 hours about career and ACCA qualification.
On 7 April 2014, Sinar College gave a career talk to Form 5 students who study science stream at Sekoleh Menengah Kebangsaan St David. The talk was held for 2 hours from 10.00 am in the Audio Video Room. Besides explaining about educational opportunities, we also introduced the students about courses offered at the college.
Sinar College as the reliable training institution for tourism courses had again organized a trip for its tourist guide students. The students were brought to tour around Melaka on 6 April 2014. During the tour, the students were trained on their oral presentation while describing on interesting places along the way.
On 3 April 2014, Sinar College participated in Education Fair at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan St David. Around 20 colleges including Sinar set up booth which was located inside the school main hall. It was part of the school event to raise fund while introducing educational opportunities to students after SPM. The exhibition involved more than 500 students.
From 7 April 2014 to 10 April 2014, Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran conducted workshop for all training centers from Melaka, Negeri Sembilan & Johor at Hotel Selesa, Johor Bahru. As one of the approved training center that offfer Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) course, Sinar College was sponsored to attend the event. The workshop was for introducing and training us on the new format of SKM training and the system used in administrating it, known as Skim Kredit Kemahiran Malaysia (SKMM).
On 31 March 2014, Sinar College team visited Kolej Politeknik Merlimau as our Tourist Guide lecturer, En Alif was invited to become the examiner for final year students of Diploma in Event Management. Each final year student was assigned with project and had to present them in front of us. En Alif then assessed each student based on certain criteria and gave some constructive criticism. We had meaningful discussion with lecturers as well as Head of Programs from the Tourism & Hospitality Faculty.
